Application for Presidency

Dear Members of EWB UCalgary,

There are two main reasons for my application as president, first, I strongly believe in EWB’s value guided approach both in Canada and in Africa, and second, I believe that the EWB UCalgary has come a place where our skills and human resources match up to many of our ambitious goals. At our present state, there are three key elements that make me very excited about EWB UCalgary’s, we are extremely ambitious, we are outcome focused, and we are a very dedicated, passionate and skilled membership. We won the Most Ambitious Chapter Award in January 2011 and our chapter has specialized in outcome focused programming since spring of 2010.

As president, I would hope to support the chapter to become a more practical and supportive community in order to achieve our ambitious and outcome‐focused goals. I believe there are inter‐program opportunities that we have not yet capitalized on and that if we support each other more effectively and apply a more practical mindset to achieving our goals, we will be doing better work for Dorothy. I could not achieve these goals on my own, which leads me to what would be the main focus of my service: supporting the amazing leaders within our chapter, people like you. I want to serve you as a soundboard for ideas, an asker of tough questions, a catalyst for leadership development, a connector to thirdparty ideas and opportunities, and best of all, someone to let others know about the amazing work you are doing.

I have been involved with EWB UCalgary since fall of 2008, serving in many positions ‐ as Director of Public Engagement (08/09), VP of Operations and Finance (09/10), Junior Fellow (Summer 2010), Member Learning Coordinator (10/11), and Retreats Coordinator and General Project Support (11/12). These roles have helped me develop many skills from public relations, critical thinking, and most importantly, taught me how to truly invest in people.

Members of EWB UCalgary, I earnestly hope that you will grant me the privilege of serving you all as president in the 2012/13 year.
